Last Meeting
27 September 2009, Wayne presided.
- All the members enjoyed a great Pot Luck dinner, Patricia surprised Maurice with a
birthday cake in celebration of his 70th birthday which was enjoyed by all.
- Minutes of last meeting were adopted.
- Treasurer reported 18 paid up members and a $1,004.65 bank balance. The rental for the meeting
hall has been prepaid for one year through the end of June 2010
- Members were reminded of the Lending Library books. A list is available at the bottom of this page.
- Wayne reported on the success of the clock display the Quinte Timekeepers setup at the
Belleville Library.
- It was with sadness that Wayne gave the news of Bill and Sandi resigning from the Chapter.
- A report was made on the clock display put on at Scuggog Shores Museum, and if we should
miss next year's event was discussed.
Show and Tell: The theme letter was "S"
- Marjorie showed a Silver purse watch in a Silver case, and discussed the changes made to time pieces from large clocks to portable bracket and carriage clocks, to purse watches and finally wrist watches.
- Jim showed a Pequegnat Hamilton clock he purchased in the USA and is restoring.
He told the group that as he was working in the clock he started to notice some changes had
been made to the clock and discovered that someone had cut a hole in the original mission face of a St Thomas clock, converting it to its close counterpart the Hamilton clock, thus
making the original St Thomas the "s".
- Bill showed his recently acquired OG clock by Sperry, noting he had very little history about Sperry clocks.
- Wayne showed a large solid brass Seth Thomas marine clock. He also showed a Steeple clock by Brewster and Ingraham with a brass works and front plate. It also had a cast iron back plate with spring barrels cast into the plate. The works were made by Brewester.
Thank you to all members for their input with each Show & Tell. This sharing of information is what makes Quinte Timekeepers so helpful and interesting.
